Abstract: While chemical evolution accounts for the formation of biomolecules, the transition to life remains an organizational problem. The "Chemoton", introduced by Tibor Gánti, describes a minimal self-reproducing chemical system formed by coupling an autocatalytic metabolism, a template-based genetic polymer, and a self-organizing membrane. This integration enables sustained growth and, through physicochemical constraints, spontaneous division. The model provides a minimal framework for biogenesis and guiding principles for the construction of synthetic living systems.
