Biography
Robert Ross is a Research Associate Professor at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies, Westlake University, working in the group of Leihan Tang. He received his undergraduate degree in Physiology from The University of Edinburgh (2010) and his D.Phil. in Systems Biology from the Wolfson Centre for Mathematical Biology at the University of Oxford (2017). He has held research positions in the Department of Systems Biology at Harvard University and at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology.
Research
Robert's research focuses on the physics of developmental and biological systems, particularly how collective behaviour emerges from the interplay between cell behaviour and growth. He uses theoretical and computational approaches from statistical physics and complex systems, with a particular emphasis on understanding how these frameworks must be modified to account for growth. More broadly, he is interested in determining whether growth simplifies or complicates developmental dynamics.
