Westlake University holds its New Undergraduate Student Convocation Westlake University held its New Undergraduate Student Convocation for the 2025 cohort on Aug. 10. This year marks a series of breakthroughs in Westlake University admissions. For the first time, the university has enrolled undergraduates from beyond Zhejiang Province, opening its doors to students from Jiangsu, Shanghai, Guangdong, Henan, and Chongqing. It has introduced a new and expanded selection process that considers students’ gaokao results and overall academic performance. Westlake has launched a new undergraduate program in medicine. Additionally, the university has now welcomed students from Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas Chinese communities through the National Unified Examination.

Westlake University To Admit Its First Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Students Westlake University, a new type of research university, has always encouraged cross-disciplinary collaboration. This year, it has taken that philosophy a step further by launching admissions for interdisciplinary Ph.D. students for the first time. The university welcomes recommendation-exempt direct-track Ph.D. students to enroll in two new interdisciplinary programs – Quantitative Biology and Complex Systems, and Sustainable Development Science and Technology.

Westlake University Mourns the Passing of Professor Chen-Ning Yang Westlake University expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Professor Chen-Ning Yang, Nobel Prize laureate in Physics, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor at Tsinghua University, Honorary Chair of the Board of Trustees of Westlake University, and a member of Westlake's Advisory Board. Professor Yang passed away in Beijing on October 18, 2025, at the age of 103 due to illness.

Congratulate to Dr. Jerry Wang on Nature Biomedical Engineering Publication | Causal AI Model Identifies New Combination Therapies for Cold Tumors Researchers from Westlake University, Caltech, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center have developed a powerful machine-learning framework, Morpheus, that identifies molecular changes capable of transforming cold tumors-those lacking T cells-into hot tumors, which are heavily infiltrated by T cells and more responsive to immunotherapy. This work, published in Nature Biomedical Engineering, could help unlock new strategies for making immunotherapy more effective against tumors that have been difficult to treat, including colorectal cancer and breast cancer.
