Recently, Professor Giorgio Parisi, Nobel Laureate in Physics and an Italian theoretical physicist, visited the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (CIS) at Westlake University. During his visit, he engaged in academic exchanges with Professor Chao Tang, Director of the Center, Professor Leihan Tang, Deputy Director of the Center, as well as other scholars such as Prof. Henri Orland.

Professor Parisi was born on August 4, 1948, in Rome, Italy. He is a prominent contemporary theoretical physicist who has made significant contributions in the fields of statistical physics, complex systems, and quantum field theory. His research on spin glasses, surface growth, multifractals, and stochastic resonance, among others, has profoundly influenced the development of neural networks and machine learning. In 2021, Professor Parisi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for "discovering the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales," marking the highest recognition of his outstanding academic achievements.

During his visit, Professor Parisi toured the campus and research facilities of Westlake University and was briefed on the establishment and development of CIS. He highly praised the research work conducted by Westlake University in this field and expressed his strong anticipation for deeper scientific research collaboration with the institute in the future.

In the academic exchange session, Professor Parisi shared his insights and experiences in complex system research and conducted in-depth discussions on the frontier issues in current physics research. He emphasized that the study of complex systems is fascinating, as the systems it focuses on were not previously considered part of physics, but now this field of research is continuously expanding and deepening. He also encouraged young scholars to bravely explore unknown territories and constantly challenge scientific limits.

Professor Parisi's visit not only brought valuable academic resources to CIS at Westlake University but also further enhanced the international influence of Westlake University in the fields of statistical physics and complex systems. In the future, Westlake University will continue to strengthen research collaboration and exchanges with top universities worldwide, jointly promoting advancements and developments in science and technology.
